UPDATE: The Missouri State Highway Patrol has canceled its Blue Alert out of Kansas City, Missouri. They say the suspect is in custody.

Authorities say the officer has passed away.

KANSAS CITY, MO. – The Missouri State Highway Patrol issues a Blue Alert.

They issue a Blue Alert when a Law enforcement officer is killed or seriously injured in the line of duty. It states the officer was initiating a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver allegedly exited the vehicle and started firing on the officer causing serious injury.

The shooting happened today around 10:41 am on 21st Street North Kansas City, Missouri.

The Alert states the suspect is a white male with brown hair. Authorities do not know what firearm he is armed with.

The suspect was driving a gray Ford Focus with the license plant number “03GU43” out of Missouri.
