Reverend Ronnie Paul Howerton, 75, of Monett, MO, won his race here on Earth and was called to his Heavenly home on Friday morning, January 20, 2023 following a battle with cancer.
Ronnie was born on February 7, 1947 in Aurora, MO, son of the late Edward Paul Howerton and Mary Ann (Fisher) Howerton. He graduated from Monett High School with the class of 1965 and then furthered his education at the Rolla School of Engineering.
In 1968, Ronnie enlisted in the Army National Guard where he served for over eight years. He worked as a Lineman most of his adult life, first at Ozark Electric for nine years and last for the City of Monett, retiring in 2013.
Ronnie’s calling in life was that of a Pastor. He began his Ministry at Maria-TA-Heights Fundamental Methodist Church in Springfield, MO, followed by Easyville Fundamental Methodist Church and Aurora Fundamental Methodist Church.
For the next twenty years, Ronnie was called back to Easyville Fundamental Methodist Church before his final calling for fourteen years at Grace Independent Methodist Church in Monett, formerly Monett Fundamental Methodist Church.
Ronnie was also instrumental in the founding of the Berean Christian Academy in Monett.
A few enjoyments in his life were coaching his children, watching his grandkids play sports, farming, spending time with his family and attending gospel concerts, revivals and camp meetings.
On November 24, 1967, in Monett, Ronnie Howerton and Deloris Pryor were united in marriage. To this union, they were blessed with three children and over fifty-five years of wonderful memories made together.
Ronnie is survived by his wife, Deloris, of the home; two sons, Wyatt Howerton and wife Kristin, Pierce City, MO and Matt Howerton and wife Christy, of Russellville, AR; one daughter, Rhonda Copeland and husband Josh, of Monett; thirteen grandchildren, Cole Howerton, Drew Howerton, Brett Howerton, Olivia Owens, Bryce Owens, Trevor Howerton, April Fowler, Gunnar Howerton and wife Aubrey, Madison Howerton, Dawson Copeland, Paige Copeland, Aiden Copeland and Payton Copeland; three great-grandchildren, Aaniyah Fowler, Averyon Fowler and AaMajah Fowler; one brother, John Howerton and wife Kathy; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Olafae Ennes and husband Verdayne, Lonell Ward and husband Jeff and Kenny Pryor and wife Dianne; as well as a host of special nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Ronnie was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandpa, uncle and friend. He will forever be remembered by all that knew him.
Funeral services for Reverend Ronnie Howerton will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2023 at Grace Independent Methodist Church with Reverend Lonny Burks and Reverend Mike Hutsell officiating.
Interment will follow at Sparks Cemetery, Butterfield, MO. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions have been suggested to Seasons Hospice or Berean Christian Academy in care of the funeral home.
