No charges yet in Ottawa County shooting death

Updated January 28, 2013 at 1:00 PM CST: It could be at least a week before any charges are filed in a weekend shooting death in Miami, Oklahoma.

The suspected shooter claims it was accident when the gun fired, shooting her husband in the chest this past Saturday.

Miami police were called to the couple’s home around 10 a.m. a domestic dispute and shooting.

When they arrived the authorities found John Allen Largent dead with a gunshot to the chest.

The police chief says there is no recorded history of domestic violence between the Largents, but neighbors say they’ve witnessed this couple having problems in the past.

An autopsy is underway while the investigation into what actually happened leading up to the shooting continues.

Posted January 26, 2013 at 6:56 PM CST: Police in Miami Oklahoma investigate a shooting. It happened in the 100 block of G Street SE around 10:00AM Saturday morning. When police arrived they found John Allen Largent dead.

“He had been shot one time with a hand gun, gun shot to the chest and then there was a female there apparently the wife of the deceased person” says Police Chief George Haralson.

Police say the wife pulled the trigger and claims it was an accident.

Neighbors say they have witnesses this couple having problems in the past.

“Yeah they argue quite a bit they very often come outside and the whole neighborhood witnessed it” says one neighbor.

“Yeah my daughter were telling me last night the police were here checking on the activity the neighbors had told me they had gotten into a fight in the yard and he drugged her in the house by her legs” says another neighbor.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has interviewed Largent’s wife. No arrests have currently been made. OSBI says the investigation is still ongoing.
