Newton County Kidnapping not related to alleged sex trafficking ring
NEWTON COUNTY, Mo – The Newton County Sheriff’s Office says the kidnapping of a 17-year-old girl is an isolated incident.
According to Sheriff Chris Jennings, there is no evidence that a kidnapping and sex trafficking ring is operating out of Newton County.
Newton County residents began to see stories circulate on social media about a possible kidnapping and sex trafficking ring.
On August 25th, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report that a woman was being held against her will.
The 17-year-old victim said she was not allowed to leave a house at 11232 Poppy Lane. A 19-year-0ld male was taken into custody and is awaiting charges for Third Degree Kidnapping.
Authorities say that while the investigation is still ongoing, it appears to be an isolated incident involving one victim.
