We learn more after authorities find three missing McDonald County children safe in Iowa

Kids found in Des Moines, Iowa with family friends

MCDONALD COUNTY, Mo. - Four-year-old Siah Casillas -- 20-month old Saidah Noor, and seven month old Intisar Mahamed were found in in De Moines, Iowa.

The Sheriff's office tentatively identified their mother -- 25 year old Jessica McCormack -- as the woman that was found dead along Highway 59 outside of Noel on July 29-th.

Hall says early this week, they received information they can't share with KOAM that gave their assumption more weight.

They've also spoken with McCormick's half brother, who gave them a DNA sample which will make the identification official.

They are also looking into dental records.

Mike Hall, McDonald County Sheriff: "We're hoping that another family member has either access to some dental records when she was a teenager, or they can remember what dentist she went to."

Sheriff Hall says they reached out to one of the children's fathers on Thursday, after they made the preliminary identification.

The father then went to the Sheriff's office and filed a missing person's report on the children on Thursday-- which was forwarded to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Hall: "Later in the evening, we got a call from a lady up in De Moines, Iowa who's a family friend, and contacted detectives up in De Moines, Iowa."

Detectives with De Moines PD went to the house, which belonged to a family friend,  and confirmed they were McCormack's children.

Hall: "We don't believe the family friends had anything to do with it at this time. They were just watching the kids. So, we're just kind of pursuing and looking into that lead to see the one person that dropped them off there, and go from there."

Hall says the kids are now in protective custody with child services.

And the sheriff's office is moving on from  identifying the body -- to what happened, and why.

Hall: "We can talk to the friends, any other friends that might have seen her, talked to her, then maybe we can get a timeline.. when this happened, what happened. So it is a big break. I'm glad the kids are safe cause we weren't sure what happened to them."

Hall says they are still waiting on DNA results to make the body identification official.
