Water rescuers free a man stuck in the Grand Falls

Swimmer's foot caught under rock

Water rescue

JOPLIN, Mo - Cooling off in local streams led  to  two water rescues Sunday evening.

Redings Mill water rescue teams were first called to Shoal Creek where a pregnant woman had fallen from a flipped raft and was caught in swift waters. She was then stranded on an island and rescued by crews from Redings Mill and Joplin.

A second call quickly followed around 8:00 p.m. that a young man's foot was stuck under a rock at the Grand Falls. The man was up near the dam.

Redings Mill and Newton county rescue teams  worked as the sun was setting to free his foot and get him safely to shore. Waters are swift there after recent flooding.
