CARL JUNCTION, Mo. - The FEMA disaster recovery center in Carl Junction is an opportunity for those in the community who are victims of a natural disaster to get assistance.

"We want as many people as we can to come in and see if we can help them you know get them the assistance that’s out there for them" said the Disaster Recovery Center manager, Robert Shraeder.

While many know of FEMA, not a lot of people know what the small business administration is all about or how they can help.

"We’re the best kept secret in disaster recovery" said S-B-A Public Information Officer, Susheel Kumar.

Applying to the S.B.A. program is the next step after registering with FEMA. Their program offers disaster loans to those who need it.

"$40,000 for personal property for renters and homeowners, $200,000 for damages against their residence, $2,000,000 for private non-profits and businesses of all sizes. Interest rate is as low as 2%, fixed up to 30 years, no prepayment penalty, program is for the uninsured and under-insured." Added Kumar.

Kumar says if people don’t apply with S.B.A. and only register with FEMA then they are missing out on additional resources that could help them with long term recovery.

"Our low interest rate disaster loans are meant to foster rehabilitation recovery and repair of those fixed assets."

The deadline for applying to the SBA program is September 9th. The Disaster Recovery center’s last day open in Carl Junction is August 7th from 8 A.M. until 7 P.M.

"SBA is a necessary part of the disaster recovery process, so if you think you don’t qualify, apply with the SBA anyway” added Kumar.

"This is a way we can help people get back on their feet or headed in that direction" added Shraeder.

The disaster declaration has expanded to include Newton and McDonald County.
