PSU students make donation to local Special Olympics chapter

Some Pittsburg State students presented a check to Special Olympics after their Teeter-Totter fundraiser brings in $1,000.

Members of Alpha Sigma Alpha and Pi Kappa Alpha presented the donation on Monday.

The local Special Olympics chapter will use the funds to sponsor trips to compete in various sporting activities.

The PSU students contributing to the sport say it's an important cause.

"Special Olympics is very important to me on a personal level - I have a down syndrome cousin and I have seen the effects," says Karley Bledsoe of Alpha Sigma Alpha.  "It gives them a purpose and most importantly friends and they love it."

"The community basically helps keeps us running - without the community donations we couldn't have the Special Olympics we do," says John Lair, the Director of New Hope.

On Thursday, KOAM's Rudy Harper takes us on the road with the New Hope Bulldogs as they compete for a national championship in flag football.
