GALENA, Kan. – A search in Galena led to some of the city’s schools being put on lockdown Thursday morning. According to Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves, dispatch received a call about 6 a.m. of a suspect trying to steal vehicles. The suspect allegedly attempted a carjacking at the Casey’s gas station. Authorities say the suspect then took off on foot. Jasper County deputies later arrested the suspect about 9:30 a.m. near the Liberty power plant on the Missouri side of the state line. Click here to read more about this story.
JOPLIN, Mo - There's about 24 apartments in the two north byers avenue buildings. According to one of the tenants Tommy Farris, who has lived at the apartment complex for 4 years, the landlord has not kept up with them. Joplin building and fire officials said in a statement that they have worked with the owner for years to correct a variety of dangerous building and code violations. CARTHAGE, Mo. - The city of Carthage, has no candidates currently running for city council in Ward One and Ward Three ahead of the municipal elections. If no one is on the ballot come April 4th, the city will have two empty seats. The Mayor will appoint people to fill those seats if there's no serious write-in candidates. JOPLIN, Mo - Vita Nova village is developing a transitional housing community to help Joplin's homelessness problem. The non-profit organization is receiving counseling from Eden Village, a housing community based in Springfield. Eden Village is successful in Springfield...Vita Nova village is hoping for the same impact in Joplin.
