Neosho Teacher Killed While on Crosswalk Duty

A teacher has died after being hit by a vehicle at a crosswalk in Neosho, Missouri. According to the school district, the teacher was performing crossing duty at Benton Elementary when the incident happened.

According to Neosho police, it happened around 3:30 p.m. The incident is still under investigation.

The name of the teacher is not being released at this time.

"This is a very tragic accident," said Dr. Jim Cummins, superintendent of Neosho School District. "I think we are all in a state of shock and want to make sure we do everything we can to support our team and students in this difficult time."

Counselors will be available for students and NSD team members. School at Benton Elementary has been cancelled for Thursday and Friday (Sept. 6-7).

The school district says a press conference will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning at the Neosho School District administrative center, 418 Fairground Road, Neosho, MO 64850.
