$3 million in FEMA funding helps recovery in southwest Missouri

FEMA says more than $3 million in FEMA funding is helping people in southwest Missouri recover from flooding and severe storms.

The agency released recovery funding numbers as of August 23rd, 2019.

FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program has paid nearly $2.5 million to flood insurance policyholders in Jasper, McDonald and Newton counties. They say a major disaster declaration is not required for insurance claims.

For damage and serious needs not covered by insurance, FEMA has provided more than $572,000 in grants to homeowners and renters in Jasper, McDonald and Newton counties. These grants are for temporary rental assistance, basic home repairs and other needs not covered by insurance. By law, FEMA may not duplicate insurance payments.

Jasper County – $587,000
FEMA flood insurance: $380,000 paid; 20 claims
FEMA grants: $207,000 provided; 47 households approved
Disaster Recovery Center visits: 32

McDonald County – $1.5 million
FEMA flood insurance: $1.36 million paid; 55 claims
FEMA grants: $226,000 provided; 52 households approved
Disaster Recovery Center visits: 45

Newton County – $865,000
FEMA flood insurance: $726,000 paid; 30 claims
FEMA grants: $139,000 provided; 42 households approved
Disaster Recovery Center visits: 53

People may register for assistance by calling FEMA at 800-621-3362 or at DisasterAssistance.gov.

The deadline to register is Sept. 9.

FEMA works with every household on a case-by-case basis. 

People who have already spent money on repairs or other living expenses could be eligible for FEMA reimbursements. Homeowners and renters may be eligible.
