MoDOT Names Kathryn Harvey New Assistant Chief Engineer
JEFFERSONCITY, MO. – The Missouri Department of Transportation has named Kathy Harvey as the new assistant chief engineer.
PreviouslyMoDOT’s state design engineer, Harvey has served the agency for 22 years, beginning her career in 1991 as anintermediate highway designer in the southwest district. Throughoutthe past two decades, Harvey accepted various roles of increasingresponsibility, including serving as a liaison and tech support engineerwhere she oversaw the historic preservation and environmental studies ofthe design division.
In 2005,Harvey accepted the position of state design engineer where she has served MoDOT at a statewide level. In thiscapacity, she administered plans for bid lettings, environmental andhistoric preservation efforts, updates for the Engineering PolicyGuide, and various policy and regulatory issues. She is known as a pioneerin both the design-build approach to construction and practicaldesign.
“Kathy hashelped the department achieve the level of national recognition we enjoy today,” said MoDOT Chief Engineer EdHassinger. “Her proven leadership abilities and experience are theperfect match for the assistant chief engineer position.”
As theassistant chief engineer, Harvey will support the strategies set forth by the executive team. This includes theleadership of maintenance, construction, design, work zone safety andseveral other areas of department operations.
“I believe inthe vision of MoDOT’s executive team and I’m excited to have the opportunity to be a part of implementing thatvision,” Harvey said. “I am passionate about transportation and aboutbeing a part of a team of dedicated professionals serving the citizens ofthis state.”
Harvey feelsstrongly about MoDOT’s continued embracement of technology to make the department more efficient. Shewants to enhance and mature MoDOT’s technological infrastructure so thedepartment can meet the transportation challenges of tomorrow.
She is alsopassionate about the role of women in transportation.
“I want ourfemale employees prepared to serve in leadership roles for MoDOT,” Harvey said. “It is my desire to mentor andcoach our next generation of leaders.”
