Man Caught Red-Handed Stealing, Leads Police On Car Chase

Authorities have charged 44-year-old Travis Bebee of Joplin for attempted theft and resisting arrest after leading Webb City Police on a car chase Sunday evening. He was reportedly caught red-handed stealing.

Police were called to Atwoods in Webb City in response to an alarm. The officers found Bebee allegedly attempting to steal a log splitter. When the officers made contact with Bebee, he dropped the log splitter and took off in his Jeep Cherokee, heading south on Madison.

The suspect abandoned his Jeep when it got stuck in the mud in a wooded area near Royal Heights subdivision. Officers with the Joplin Police Department arrived and began a track with their K-9. The K-9 led police to a residence where the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody.
