UPDATE: KBI releases identity of body found in Galena in February as that of Carthage man

The KBI stated that Wittington last spoke to family in late 2022.

The KBI release said that "the investigation has not indicated any signs of foul play." Authorities are waiting on the final autopsy report to be released.

KOAM's Jaylon Banks went to the scene at 11th and Wood Streets the afternoon the body was discovered. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said police were called to the area near the tire mono-fill. A body was located there.

Galena Police gave Jaylon the following statement:

"Around 3PM this afternoon GPD received a call about a body in the field by the mono-fill. When officers responded they did discover a body and they are now starting a death investigation. GPD called in KBI for assistance," Billy Charles GPD Chief.
