KBI: Body in Galena not identified yet due to condition of remains

According to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI), the Galena Police got a report of a body around 3:00 pm on Monday. It was in a field near 11th and Wood Street. 

Officers got there and found the "badly decomposed remains of a man," according to the KBI.

Around 3:30pm, the Galena Police Department requested the KBI's assistance with the investigation.

Today, the KBI released an update, stating:

"At this time, the man has not been identified. Due to the condition of his remains, positive identification is expected to take longer than typical cases.

Death investigations may be determined to be the result of homicide, suicide, natural causes, or an accident. An autopsy is scheduled."

Authorities are still investigating.
