Carthage man suffers serious injuries as SUV goes off outer road, crashing below onto I-49
The driver was arrested Felony DWI and Felony DWR. MSgt Brandon Helms of Missouri State Highway Patrol tells us the unidentifiable vehicle was a Dodge Journey.

FIDELTIY, Mo. — Just before 9:15 p.m. Friday evening, March 3, 2023, reports of a single vehicle crash along I-49 south near the I-44 westbound ramp alerted Jasper County Emergency 911.
Carthage Fire Dept, Mercy Ambulance, Jasper County Deputies responded. Missouri State Highway Patrol were notified.
On scene we learn a Dodge Journey was traveling east on the outer road of Cimmaron Road as it curves to become S Garrison Ave traveling north.
The driver went off-road striking some large cedar trees which slowed the vehicle as it went down the hill, coming to rest on the right shoulder of I-49 south near the I-44 westbound ramp.
MSgt Brandon Helms of Troop D tells KOAM’s Shannon Becker the male driver suffered serious injuries.
In an online report the driver is identified as Cory Buerge, 40, of Carthage, Mo. He was wearing a seatbelt. In a separate online report the driver is also arrested Felony DWI and Felony Driving While Revoked (DWR). He was released to seek medical care. He will appear in Jasper County court on an unknown date.

Neighbors nearby had come out of their homes telling us the crash sounded like an explosion.
M&M Wrecker removed the crash and debris from the scene.
