News to Know: MoKan Dragway celebrates 60 years and Golden City hosts the Great American Bed Race

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. – The MoKan Dragway celebrate a special milestone over weekend….it’s 60th Anniversary. On Friday and Saturday, MoKan played host to a big event in honor of 6 decades of operation. Professional racers from across the Midwest rolled into Asbury, Missouri over the weekend to compete for over $35,000 in prize money. GOLDEN CITY, Mo. – The Golden City Harvest Days festival rolled into top speed with their Annual Great American Bed Race. It’s not like most races you have seen, these race “beds” are made our of an iron bed frames on wheels and part of an old motorcycle. The team who wins first place gets a trophy and a cash prize. There is also a cash prize for the team who is best dressed.

JOPLIN, Mo. – Some area athletes took to Missouri Southern to show off their strength. MSSU hosted the first Phorm Monster game. First Phorm is a well known health and wellness brand in the fitness community. The cross-fit competition hosted hundreds of people and had events featuring tests of endurance, strength and gymnastic movements. Read more here.

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Joplin School District holds its first bus safety day for the first time in three years. This year they were able to introduce the newest member of the bus fleet, Buster – the talking bus. The event is geared to teach upcoming Kindergartners and 1st graders proper bus safety and the importance of it through fun games, stations and drills.
