COFFEYVILLE, Kan. – A Coffeyville man accused of shooting and killing another man in 2020 is sentenced on Thursday. Ethan Bellamy will spend nearly five years in prison followed by three years probation. Authorities accused Bellamy of shooting and killing Otis Horner at an East Coffeyville apartment in June 2020. Bellamy was originally charged with first-degree premeditated murder. He pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter back in March. Click here to find previous articles about this case.

DUENWEG, Mo. – Fire crews are called to a business fire on 7th street in Duenweg Thursday evening. It happened at 7th and Snapdragon Lane at Seward’s Insulation and Drywall. Firefighters had to shut the road down to run a water hose across it. No one was reportedly inside when it started. The cause of the fire is under investigation. TOPEKA, Kan. – Governor Laura Kelly has announced a multi-million dollar investment to improve the rail systems in rural Kansas. Monarch Cement in Humboldt received more than $2-million dollars out of the $11.5 million dollar grant. That will help the company receive raw materials by rail. An overall goal of the the project is to help reduce wear and tear on the roads and highways and put less demand on truck transportation.

CARTHAGE, Mo. – On Thursday people in Carthage had the chance to learn more about an upcoming bond proposal. The school district held an informational meeting at the Carthage R9 auditorium. The proposal is for a performing arts center at the high school campus. With classroom space for band, vocal music, and drama programs. Carthage school officials expect to hold another informational meeting sometime in July, closer to the August election.
