JOPLIN, Mo. – Community Blood Center of the Ozarks declares a state of emergency for the local blood supply. Severe winter weather over the last two weeks caused almost all mobile blood drives to be cancelled, resulting in the loss of almost 1,000 potential donations. Eligible donors are strongly urged to give immediately at a CBCO donor center or blood drive near them. Joplin area residents will have the opportunity to help bolster the blood supply at an emergency blood drive today from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Freeman Business Center.

COLUMBUS, Kan. – Police and Firefighters in Cherokee County, Kansas spent Wednesday and Thursday making sure residents had the bare necessities to get by during our recent, dangerously cold weather. On top of their regular duties, deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s office spent the day delivering food boxes to families who were stuck at home. The Columbus, Kansas Fire department was also making deliveries, but instead of food, they were bringing people some extra warm fleece blankets, provided by local charity “Dream Big Little One.”

JOPLIN, Mo. – Winter weather is causing local health departments to postpone coronavirus vaccine clinics. The city of Joplin cancelled a second-dose clinic for residents who got their first dose at the National Guard’s drive-through clinic.

NEOSHO, Mo. – And the Newton County Health department postponed its first two clinics scheduled for this week. Larry Bergner with the health department says they were for initial doses, and they are being rescheduled for next week.

CARTERVILLE, Mo. – The city of Carterville, Missouri offers free cases of water to residents as it deals with it’s own water issues. Residents can go to the fire station to get up to two cases of water per household. Delivery is available for the elderly. Earlier this week a pump failed and the city lost access to its water supply and is now under a boil advisory. Now they’re getting a new pump that they say will work better.
