CARL JUNCTION, Mo. – Carl Junction school officials expel a student after a handgun was found Monday in a locker at the high school. School administrators found the gun around 8:00am while doing a locker check for an unrelated issue. The police chief says a nine-millimeter handgun was found with at least four magazines and ammunition. Police arrested the student and took the student to the Juvenile Detention Center in Joplin.

DUQUESNE, Mo. – Duquesne police say a male is dead after a house fire on East 10th in Duquesne. It happened around 9:30am Monday morning. Authorities have not released the victim’s name and they say they’re investigating the death. Three fire departments responded to the fire. The state of Missouri launched a new website featuring an expanded set of Covid-19 dashboards aimed at providing info on kids in school. This data tracks positive cases among all school aged Missouri residents, ages five through 19. Cases are geocoded to each school district’s geographic area. According to this data set, in our area, Joplin comes in at number one, followed by Carthage.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The questioning phase of the Supreme Court nomination hearing for Judge Amy Coney Barrett begins today. Democrats are expected to ask about her stance on the Affordable Care Act, abortion rights, and the presidential election. Republicans hope to seat Barrett quickly in order for her to hear legal challenges to the election. Democrats are demanding she pledge to not take part in any election cases.
