New technology lets kidney patients get dialysis treatments at home

New technology in dialysis for kidney patients allows more freedom when it comes to treatment.

Dialysis allows patients with kidney failure to help regulate their organs and extend their life. But it’s not easy. Patients must get dialysis treatments three times a week for up to four hours every visit.

Now patients have the option to take the equipment home and train a loved one or caretaker to perform the treatment.

“For doctor’s appointments it really works well with their lifestyle, whatever they want to do, if they have things scheduled they can just work around it with dialysis instead of having to come in the center and be on the center schedule,” says Christy Waldo, R.N.

Waldo suggests those interested in the technology talk to their doctors to see if the treatment is right for them.
