NEO Cancels 76th Annual NEO High School Basketball Tournament
Miami, Okla. January 13, 2022– For the past 75 years, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) has hosted an annual high school basketball tournament in January as one of the primary recruiting events of the year. Each year, thousands of athletes, families, and fans would attend to cheer on their favorite players and teams. The popularity and high attendance level at the tournament has led the NEO administration to make the difficult decision to cancel the upcoming event, originally scheduled for January 20-22.
“I believe this is in the best interest of our faculty, staff, students, and potential guests due to the onset of the new Omicron variant, the increase of COVID cases, and the large in-person crowds attracted to this much anticipated event, to cancel the tournament for this year,” said NEO President, Dr. Kyle Stafford. “I want to do my best to keep as many people as safe as possible and continue to be able to serve our student body.”
NEO will still host low attendance activities, while continuing to monitor the ever changing COVID-19 and adhere to CDC guidelines.
