NEO aims for back-to-back wins against Ellsworth

The Golden Norsemen picked up their first win over Navarro last Saturday.

MIAMI, Okla. – The NEO Golden Norsemen are aiming for back-to-back wins this weekend, with a home date against Ellsworth.

The Norsemen picked up their first win of the season last weekend, beating Navarro 39-15. 15 points is the fewest points NEO (1-2) has allowed this season.

Navarro ran plays very, very fast,” says NEO head coach Zach Crissup, “I thought we did a great job of stopping them. We held them to 15 points and a little under 300 yards, and they had 700 or 800 yards one week.”

“It feels really good. We were practicing all week for it,” says NEO cornerback Devin Hembry of the team’s defensive performance, “Just to come out in front of our crowd on homecoming and show them what we can do…I’m pretty sure people started to lose faith in us, but we started getting this thing rolling and it’s going to start rolling now.”

NEO had a dominant performance on offense as well. The team rushed for 467 yards, with five players finishing with 50+ rushing yards in the game.

It’s a big deal. We ran the ball a lot,” Crissup adds, “We had three guys who were close to one hundred yards. We had two that did have one hundred and then our quarterback finished with 85. I was very, very proud and pleased with our offense and just the work they put in all week, the way they blocked and carried out fakes and the way they did everything they were supposed to do, that we had been talking about all week. If you watch the very first play of the game last week, we had a double-team go thirty yards down the field. We’re going to play a very, very physical brand of football…and that really showed up last week.”
