The Lions beat the Blue Tigers 52-32 Saturday in Jefferson City.

WATCH: Missouri Southern tops Lincoln 52-32 Saturday afternoon. WR Brian Boyd Jr. scores three touchdowns on the day for the Lions.

The Missouri Southern football team jumped out to a 17-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back as the Lions defeated Lincoln 52-32 today inside Dwight T. Reed Stadium in Jefferson City.
The Lions (2-4, 2-4 MIAA) got a huge day on offense from Brian Boyd Jr. as he caught five passes for 169 yards and three touchdowns. Boyd averaged 33.8 yards per catch with a long of 72 and became the first Lion since 2011 to catch three touchown passes in a game since Landon Zerkel did it against Lincoln. Boyd also moved into the top-ten of single-game receiving yards, tying the 169 that Glen Watson had against Wayne State in 1980 and Rod Smith had against Central Missouri in 1993 for ninth-place all-time.

The numbers don’t stop there. Dawson Herl went 12-for-20 with three touchdowns and 246 yards through the air. Herl became the first freshman since Adam Hinspeter in 2005 to throw three touchdown passes in a game. Chris Boudreaux had three catches for 55 yards, including a long of 31.

The Lions had three separate running backs with a touchdown led by Josh Mercer who went for 119 yards on seven carries and a long of 61. Jeremy Brown had 11 carries for 67 yards and a score, while Nathan Glades rushed 11 times for 55 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Richard Jordan Jr. led the team with 11 tackles, a half sack and three tackles for a loss. Colton Winder had seven stops, while Nick Kruse had a sack and a half and Dionnte White had a sack of his own. Dylan Bolden picked up his fifth interception of the year and his second pick six as he returned an interception for 21 yards to the endzone.

Nick Williams was 1-of-1 in field goals with a long of 42.

The Lions scored on their first four possessions, getting touchdowns from Glades and Boyd and a field goal from Williams. The Lions got another touchdown from Boyd to start the second quarter, as well as the pick six from Bolden to lead 31-6 with six minutes to go in the second quarter.

Lincoln (0-5, 0-5 MIAA) got another touchdown before Brown scored from nine yards out to give the Lions a 38-12 lead at halftime.

Lincoln scored with 2:47 left in the third, but the Lions answered right back as Mercer reeled off a 61-yard touchdown to give the Lions a 45-20 lead after three.

Boyd picked up his third touchdown of the game to start the fourth and Lincoln added two late scores.

Southern defeats Lincoln for the tenth-straight time in the series. It is the third-most points a Southern offense has put up against the Blue Tigers, trailing the 59 points the Lions had in Lincoln in 2013 and the 56 points Southern scored in 2011 when the game was played in St. Louis at the Edward Jones Dome.

The Lions will be back in action next Saturday as Southern plays host to Central Missouri. Kickoff from Fred G. Hughes Stadium is set for 4 pm.
