Release from Missouri Southern Athletics:
Indianapolis, Ind. — Once again, the numbers have proved it. The fans that came through the doors at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center are some of the best in Division II as the NCAA released men’s basketball attendance rankings today.
The Lions ranked seventh nationally in Division II as Southern saw 25,325 fans in its 14 home games this year for an average of 1,809 per game.
That number ranks second in the MIAA behind Fort Hays State as the Tigers ranked third nationally. The MIAA had six teams in the top-20 in the rankings as Missouri Western was ninth, followed by Washburn (12th), Central Missouri (13th), and Northwest Missouri (19th). Emporia State was just outside the top-20 at No. 21.
For the 12th-straight season, the MIAA led all Division II conferences in attendance with 251,994 fans watching MIAA games this year. The league had more attendance than seven other Division I conferences.
“This is such a great testament to the quality of young men we have in our program,” said head coach Jeff Boschee. “They do it the right way on and off the court. I can’t thank our fans from the surrounding communities enough. We are very fortunate to have such great support!”
