Mr. Food: Pasta Rustica

What You’ll Need

  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup pitted ripe olives, halved
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup coarsely chopped basil leaves
  • 1 pound spaghetti, cooked according to package directions

What to Do

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, heat oil until hot; add onion and garlic and saute 3 to 5 minutes or until softened.
  2. Stir in crushed tomatoes, olives, salt, and pepper; cook 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add sugar and chicken broth; cook 10 more minutes or until heated through, stirring occasionally. Stir in basil and serve over spaghetti.
