Mother Road Marathon
The “Mother Road,” Route 66, was full of traffic today. Foot traffic.
Hundreds of runners from all across the country laced up their shoes for the annual Mother Road Marathon Sunday.
The race kicked off for full marathoners in Commerce, Oklahoma, and for half marathoners in Baxter Springs, Kansas. This year included a new type of race: Hand cycling.
Organizers say this hard work truly pays off for the runners.
“I’ve worked with a lot of these runners from the different groups for a long time, and to see them finally achieve this, is great,” says Patrick Tuttle, race organizer.
Awards were given to the top finishers in each age group. Race organizers say despite some early morning rain, there was still a strong turnout.
