Mother and son take the trip of a lifetime
GIRARD, Kan. – A Girard woman took a dream vacation with her son to South Carolina after doctors diagnosed her with terminal cancer.
Ever since Bille Messinger saw the ocean as a child, she’s wanted to take her ten-year-old son back to Myrtle Beach to experience the ocean himself.
Billies says that fulfilling this dream has been difficult due to her health complications, however, thanks to the help of her social worker, Billie was able to take her dream vacation.
Billie said this trip was important because she wanted to “show [her] son things that I always wanted him to see. I’m going to miss out on so much of his life and this gives me hope that he’s going to be okay when I’m gone. ”
The pair spent time on the beach, visited Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum, and discovered wildlife native to the area.
The Dream Foundation and Care to Share Crawford County helped organize the vacation.
