Money raised for next year’s Emancipation Park Days in Joplin

People Have Fun At Charity Golf Tourney

The Emancipation Celebration Committee hit the green for its 3rd annual charity golf tournament Saturday morning at Schifferdecker Golf Course in Joplin.

Close to 20 teams participated in the 4-man scramble.

The tournament is a fundraiser to support the Emancipation Park Days celebration held every August in Ewert Park.

The park days celebration has been going on for more than a century in Joplin, but this year’s celebration was canceled because of the pandemic.

“Unfortunately because of COVID, we did have to cancel the actual Park Days celebration this year. But this tournament, we’re going to have a bigger and better year next year. We hated to have to cancel it, especially after one hundred years,” said Chalise Cooper, the emancipation celebration chair.

The Emancipation Celebration Committee says all proceeds will fund next year’s Park Days celebration.
