MoDOT spreads the word of safe driving during Work Zone Awareness Week

JOPLIN, Mo. – MoDOT hosted an event to kick off the 2022 Work Zone Awareness Week today, April 12.

Officials say that road crews are entering their busy season as temperatures begin to rise.

During the event, employees shared stories about their work, as well as close calls they have experienced while on the job.

Roy Cota from the MoDOT Emergency Response team stated:

“Some of the things we see every day are those close calls. It’s way too many close calls, people not paying attention, just on the phone, speeding through a work zone.”

Officials say last year, 17 people died in work zones on Missouri Roadways.

MoDOT encourages all drivers to be safe and responsible while navigating through work zones.
