Mock accident prepares students to get involved

PITTSBURG. Kan. – Pittsburg First Responders staged a mock crash to help educate students in the Dragon Academy Leadership Program.

Officials say the Leadership Academy is a 16-day class centered on Government and Civic Leadership. The program allows students to learn content through real-life applications.

“Our goal is to help these students become better citizens and get involved in thier community,” said Gary Wolgamott, Social Science Teacher in Pittsburg. “We spent a lot of time in the classroom talking about those subjects but we also spent a lot of time out in the community getting to know what each of those aspects are.”

Drama students help add realism to the mock accident event.
