Missouri Southern students “Suit Up” at JC Penney

When it comes to a professional wardrobe, items can be expensive.

That’s why Missouri Southern’s Career Services teamed up with JC Penney to host its first-ever “Suit Up” event for students.

JP Rutledge likes to dress nice, but as a college student, finding professional clothing at an affordable price can be a challenge.

“I have some slacks. I have some shoes. I have a lot of ties and nice button-ups, but suit-wise, I’ve usually rented suits in the past, so coming here especially to find my own suit would be nice, especially with my field being business management,” explained Rutledge.

“Extra 30% off on top of sale prices, and then we’re gonna do a raffle prize drawing.”

The deals are stacking up at JC Penney where dozens of MSSU students like Rutledge are getting in on some special savings through the “Suit Up” sale.

“There’s a huge amount of colleges that have helped participate in this along with the Penny’s store that are hosting the event. So there’s a bit of preparation on both sides…just getting the store ready, getting tables set up for them and special signings, so they’re aware of what they’re getting a discount on,” explained JC Penney Manager, Aaron Hyer.

For Career Services, the event means giving students the confidence to walk into an interview looking polished.

“It can be really hard sometimes to get a job after graduation and looking your best also helps you make you feel your best. You interview your best and then you definitely get that job,” said Shakira Rhoads with Missouri Southern’s Career Services.

These up and coming professionals can take advantage of plenty of good deals ranging from clothes, accessories and even luggage.

“This will definitely be an annual thing for us definitely in the fall…so be on the lookout, October 2020 for JC Penney “Suit Up” #2,” said Rhoads.

“This is definitely an awesome opportunity. I think it really helps bring the college into the community and also brings the students into the community,” expressed Rutledge.

MSSU students can also take advantage of another upcoming Career Services event: “Dress to Impress,” on March 4, 2020, where gently-used, professional clothing will be available at no cost.
