Missouri Southern football players, coaches shave heads in support of Christian Heady
62 players and coaches shaved their heads by the end of the night.
The Missouri Southern football team showed their support and raised money for Christian Heady and his family on Wednesday night.
Christian is an 11-year-old Webb City football player battling stage 4 cancer. He is also the son of our own Doug Heady.
Lions head coach Jeff Sims says after he heard of an anonymous donor who would donate $250 to the family for each person who shaved their head, he asked the team if they wanted to do it, and plenty of coaches and players stepped up.
“Sometimes things just hit you,” Sims says, “There’s been so many challenges that we all thing are challenges, and then you hear about a young man going through something real…we wanted to be able to raise a little money for him and show him his hair isn’t important, he’s important. As a team if we can be a little bit selfless and do something together as a team to help him, that’s really all we wanted to do.”
Sims says by the end of the night 62 players and coaches shaved their heads to support Christian.
