Missouri Southern and Crowder College announce ‘2+2’ program to help students

JOPLIN, Mo. – Missouri Southern teamed up with Cowder College to cement their ‘2+2’ program to make the pathway to certification completion easier on some students.

A signing ceremony between the Department of Teacher Education at Missouri Southern State University and its counterpart at Crowder College took place today.

The “2+2” program, which has been in the works for the past year, creates a pathway for education students at Crowder to complete their certification at Missouri Southern.

“Since I came to Missouri Southern in 2000, we’ve always had a great relationship with Crowder for individual courses and general programs,” said Lorinda Hackett, interim dean of the College of Health, Life Science and Education. “The difference here is that the agreement will provide a more seamless transition from a 2-year to a 4-year institution and complete all of their requirements in four years.”

The education certifications available include:

  • Elementary (Grades 1-6) and Early Childhood (Birth-Grade 3)
  • Elementary (1-6) and Special Education (K-12)
  • Elementary (1-6) and English Language Learner (K-12)
  • Middle School (5-9) in English, Math, Science or Social Studies
