Misse leads Pitt State to 3rd straight MIAA cross country title

Senior Piper Misse raced to the individual race championship to lead the Pittsburg State University women’s cross country team to the 2019 MIAA Championship Saturday (Oct. 26) at Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.

Misse captured her second MIAA crown in three years, crossing the finish line in 21 minutes, 23.9 seconds in the six kilometer race. Redshirt junior Cassidy Westhoff placed third overall in 21:36.1 to also garner All-MIAA honors.

Senior Kari Blattner finished 14 th in 22:30.4, sophomore Hannah Honeyman placed 20 th in 22:46.6 and junior Halle Helfrich placed 41 st in 23:32.4 to complete the Gorillas’ scored positions. Blattner and Honeyman earned honorable mention All-MIAA honors by finishing in the top 20 individuals.

Pitt State edged second place University of Central Missouri by six points, 78 to 84. The host school, Missouri Southern State University finished third with 91 points.

In the men’s action, the Gorillas placed sixth overall with 157 points. MSSU claimed the conference title with a low 35 points, while Northwest Missouri State University finished second (56).

Junior Bryce Grahn led Pitt State with a 13 th place time of 25:13.3 in the eight kilometer race. Sophomore Nathan Jones placed 20 th in 25:22.2, while sophomore Connar Southard finished in 36 th place (25:47.8).
