Michael Lewis Schmidt
November 17, 1972 - November 22, 2021
Michael unexpectedly entered his Eternal Life at his home on Monday, November 22nd, 2021 at the age of 49.
Michael was born on November 17th, 1972, in Monett, Missouri. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved kayaking and hunting. Above all, Mike cherished the time spent with his family. He touched the lives of everyone he met and did his best to make others feel welcomed and loved. Mike, was a selfless man that put others before himself. He never shied away from looking out for others or helping the ones he cared about.
He was a treasured son to Leo and Janice Schmidt of Monett. Michael devoted his life to his beloved children and his career. He is survived by his daughter, Mallory, of Webb City, Missouri and his son, Mitchell, of Cassville, Missouri. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Melissa Russell. The two worked together diligently to set good examples and provide a loving environment for their children.
Also surviving Michael are his brother, Gary Schmidt, and wife, Tonni, of Warrensburg, Missouri, twin sister, Michelle Hunter, and partner, David Cochran of Springfield, Missouri, and brother, Tim Schmidt, and wife, Natalie, of Monett, Missouri, 4 nieces and nephews: Victoria and Grayden Schmidt of Warrensburg, and Skylar and Trygg Schmidt of Monett. He is also survived by many family members who loved him and will miss him dearly.
Mike is preceded in death are maternal grandparents Lewis and Mae Bertalotto, paternal grandparents Albert and Flora Schmidt, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Michael’s calling and heart’s passion lead him into the health services field. He started his career in the Mercy Emergency Department in Cassville as an Emergency Room Technician. After finding his niche and his calling, Mike graduated in May of 2018 with an Associate of Science in Nursing from the Mercy College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Southwest Baptist University after earning an Associate of Arts Degree from Crowder College. Following his graduation, he was hired as a Registered Nurse in the Mercy Emergency Department. He touched the lives of so many coworkers and patients with his incredibly loving and compassionate heart.
Michael is a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church and graduated from Monett High School in 1991.
The Heavens had a wonderful celebration at Michael’s arrival! He is at home in Heaven at last with his Savior and all those who preceded and loved him.

Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 26th, 2021 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Monett, with Rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 27th, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, with Father Rahab Isidor officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Monett. Arrangements are under the direction of Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett.
