Mercy Health Foundation Joplin Celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Pink Activities

JOPLIN, Mo. (October 4, 2018) – Mercy Health Foundation Joplin is kicking off Breast Cancer Awareness Month in style with its popular breast cancer awareness T-shirts and Pink Fridays.

Shirts will go on sale for $20 each on Friday, Oct. 5th, in the hospital gallery outside of the Mercy Gift Shop (main hospital entrance, second floor). The shirts will also be available during the month of October inside the Mercy Gift Shop (second floor gallery), and at Sister’s Health Boutique (cancer center entrance) during normal business hours.

All proceeds will go to Mercy Health Foundation’s mammogram fund, to provide free and low-cost mammograms to uninsured and underinsured women, and the breast center fund, which provides the Mercy Breast Center with equipment, patient education and programs.

Kim Kory, executive director of Mercy Health Foundation, explained, “T-shirt sales and pink refreshments are part of Pink Fridays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Friday in October. Every year there is a new T-shirt designed specifically for Pink Fridays and everyone really looks forward to seeing the new design and supporting the cause,” said Kim. “The T-shirt sales also help to increase awareness for the need to have an annual mammogram and they benefit woman who cannot afford a screening.”

This year, the Breast Center is better equipped than ever to provide mammograms to local women with the addition of a second 3D mammography machine. Whit Sanders, executive director of Cancer Services at Mercy Hospital Joplin, said, “Generous donations from Women with a Mission and an anonymous donor have made access to the second 3D machine possible. The Mercy Health Foundation’s T-shirts on Pink Fridays benefit the mammogram fund so Mercy’s Breast Center will be able to provide more women with access to the latest in screening technology.”

Along with Pink Friday activities, Salon 529 will be in the Mercy Hospital Joplin gallery from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 5 and Oct. 19 doing pink hair extensions for $10 and chair massages at $1 per minute. All proceeds will go toward the Mercy Health Foundation mammography funds.
