RELEASE FROM MISSOURI SOUTHERN ATHLETICS:

Kansas City, Mo. — The Missouri Southern men’s golf team has been picked to finish seventh in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll, the league announced last week.

The Lions finished last season ninth in the MIAA Championships and ninth in the final standings, as well. Southern returns nine golfers from that team to bring needed leadership on the links.

Southern has played in two tournaments so far this year, finishing 14th at Central Missouri and 10th at Northeastern State in the first MIAA points event of the season. The Lions were the sixth-best MIAA team in that tournament, sitting in sixth in the initial standings for the year.

Tristan Haltom finished tied for tenth individually at NSU with a three-under par tournament. Jeremy Dunham led the way for the Lions at Central Missouri as he shot a three-round 215 to finish tied for 24th individually.

Central Missouri was picked to win the league in a narrow, one-point margin over Lindenwood. Washburn was third, just four points behind the Mules, while Central Oklahoma was fourth, just five points back. Missouri Western was picked fifth, followed by Northeastern State, Southern, Fort Hays State, Southwest Baptist and Lincoln to round out the poll.

The Lions will be hosting their annual event next Monday and Tuesday as Southern plays at Shangri-La Country Club in Monkey Island, Okla.
