Students from McAuley Catholic high school spent Saturday canvassing a neighborhood to collect canned goods in the Warrior food drive to fight hunger.

The effort was to help support the Catholic Charities of Southwest Missouri.
This is the first year for their effort and more than a dozen students donated their time to help.
Residents south of 26th street from Monroe to Schifferdecker were given bags last weekend asking them to place canned goods to donate in on their porch for the students to collect Saturday morning.
Student leaders say they hope their efforts set the tone for other area teenagers.

Freshman David Green explained, “We’re being taught to just serve others. That’s kind of the message and we really need to do that, I know a lot of kids just don’t really help out their community, and it’s good people are getting involved and helping out and getting connected.”
Green and other freshman filled a pickup truck with the donated canned goods. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors collected at other locations.
