Marvin Olson

Marvin Henry Olson, 87, of Chanute, returned to his Heavenly Father Sunday, January 13, 2019 at 8:27 AM.

Marvin was born on August 23, 1931 to Carl and Adeline (Rose) Olson on the family farm west of Chanute. He graduated from Vilas High School with the class of 1948. On December 23, 1955 he married Wilma Louise Jones, the love of his life, in Vinita, Oklahoma and they shared 63 blessed years together.

During the first 27 years of marriage they made their home in the High Prairie, Altoona-Midway community; farming, ranching and raising their family. Marvin was an active member of the community having served several years on the school board and rural water board.

After leaving the farm, he worked twenty years as an agent for Capper’s Insurance Service, earning several sales awards. After retirement, Marvin and Wilma started another adventure and for seven years operated a bed and breakfast. Marvin’s love of people and welcoming smile greeted guests from across the United States, Australia and Canada.

Marvin loved the land…hunting and fishing in Alaska was a highlight of his life. Other great enjoyments included Jayhawk basketball, Cardinal baseball, square dancing, and card parties. His family was most important to him and his grandchildren and great grandchildren made for a joyful life.

He was an ordained minister in the Community of Christ church. His retirement years were largely dedicated to the study of scripture and working tirelessly to share God’s message.
