Martin Jackson “Jack” Powell, age 93, of Aurora, Missouri, passed away at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2020 at the Aurora Nursing Center. He was born July 8, 1926, in Carthage, Missouri, the son of William Jerome “Roma” and Decima Marie (Decie) Meares Powell.

Jack was a 1945 graduate of Monett High School in Monett, Missouri and was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II. He worked for Juvenile Shoe Factory in Aurora and owned and operated the Powell Taxi Company in Aurora with his wife for several years. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Aurora.

On September 22, 1947, he married Stella Chloe Lawrence, in Aurora, Missouri.

Jack is survived by his wife of 72 years, Chloe; one son, Garry Powell and his wife, Patricia, of Aurora; one daughter, Sally Wood and her husband, Harold, of Miller, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Alan Powell, Travis Powell, Marty Houchin, Jeromy Houchin, Cassandra Henson, Bryce Powell and Monica Crouch; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Roma and Decie, son, Larry Wayne Powell, and brother, Norman Powell.

A graveside service, under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, in Aurora, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at the Maple Park Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made payable to Compassus Hospice of Monett, in care of the funeral home.
