Martha Ann Whitesell

November 28, 1932 - January 8, 2022


Martha Ann (Hart) Whitesell, aged 89, passed from this life into heaven Saturday evening, January 8, 2022 at Ascension St John Hospital in Tulsa. She was born in Vinita, OK., November 28, 1932 to parents: Ernest E and Beulah Hart.
Martha, and her husband Frances, moved to Miami in 1955. She was a book keeper working for Miami Mayor Wayne Pack, Goodrich-Walker Veterinary Hospital, Miami Laundry and was Co-Owner of Whitesell’s Men’s Wear and Ladies Shoes.
She was a member the past 2 years of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Catoosa, OK. For over 50 years she was an active member of First Baptist-Miami serving in many capacities: Sanctuary Choir, Ladies Hand Bells, Children’s Sunday School Director, President-Women’s Missionary Union, Ladies Sunday School Teacher, Director- Vacation Bible School, Home Bound Ministry, etc. Martha also sang in the Green Country Sweet Adeline’s Chorus and was active in The Community Concert Association.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Frances and children Stephen D (Stubb) Whitesell of Miami, OK, Robyn Shoun and husband Charles (Chip) Shoun of Catoosa, OK. Grand Children include: Stephen D Whitesell JR, Grove, OK and Brittany Dawn Whitesell, Tulsa, OK. Sara Alcock and husband Doug, Broken Arrow, Samuel Shoun and wife Kelly of Owasso, 8 Great grandchildren and one Great Great granddaughter. One brother: Charles Hart and wife Virginia of Kansas City and one sister: Beulah Hornback and husband Clifford of Vinita, OK.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Leon Murphy, California.
Visitation will be Tuesday January 11, 2022 at Brown-Winters Funeral Home, Miami, OK. 6-7 PM. A Memorial Service will be Wednesday January 12, 2022 11 AM First Baptist-Miami Worship Center. Interment will follow at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens, Miami. Brad Taylor, Pastor of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Catoosa will officiate assisted by Bill Zodrow, Skiatook, Ok.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Mission Offering, First Baptist-Miami.
