Man dies after tractor overturns in southeast Kansas

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Kan. – A man loses his life in a tractor crash in Montgomery County, Kansas.

The Sheriff’s Office says at around 11:59 a.m. on Jan. 12, 2021, deputies responded to CR 3670 east of CR 4150 for a report of an overturned tractor. When they got there, they found the tractor overturned in a creek.

Deputies found that the driver of the tractor, identified as Dr. Richard (Doc) Barta, had not survived his injuries. They are still investigating the exact cause of the crash.

Sheriff Ron Wade would like to extend his sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Doctor Barta. Sheriff Wade said, “If you have spent any time in or around Independence, then you are probably familiar with Doctor Barta. He was a great man and a good friend to man.”  “Today marks a sad day, today we lost a great man and he will be greatly missed.”
