Man charged in Nevada stabbing, victim hospitalized
NEVADA, Mo. – Police arrest Steven R. Wright for a Sunday stabbing in Nevada, Missouri.
On July 26, 2020, shortly before 6:00 p.m., police responded to a home in the 400 block of W. Walnut Street for a reported disturbance happening. Officers got there and found Daulton Shepard in the street with multiple stab wounds.
Emergency personnel took the victim from the scene and an air ambulance took him to Freeman Hospital in Joplin.
Police arrested Steven Wright, 19, of Amoret, Missouri after he came out of a closet inside a home. During an execution of a search warrant, authorities found a knife with dried blood in the same closet.
During an interview with Wright, he said he stabbed the victim with a knife after they had gotten into a confrontation inside a home.
After Shepard became stable and verbal at Freeman Hospital, he told police that the two were in a confrontation and that he punched Wright one time and then Wright pulled a knife out and started to stab him repeatedly.
Prosecutors have filed the following charges against him through the Vernon County Associate Court:
- Assault 1st Degree – Class B Felony
- Armed Criminal Action – Unclassified Felony
Wright is in the Vernon County Jail without bond.
