Man arrested related to Woodson County officer involved shooting
WOODSON COUNTY, Kan. – KBI special agents arrest a man related to an officer involved shooting in southeast Kansas.
The shooting happened on July 2, 2020, at the Neosho Falls campground. According to the Kansas Bureau of Investigations, two deputies with the Woodson County Sheriff’s Office were investigating a stolen vehicle. While questioning some people, an altercation broke out between the officers and Edward G. Bridges, 41, of Chanute.
Authorities say it ended with both deputies opening fire on Bridges, who was taken to the hospital. Deputies were not injured.
Today, July 7, 2020, medical personnel released Bridges from the University of Kansas Medical Center. Authorities took him into custody for two counts of aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, criminal carrying of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated weapons violation of a convicted felon, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The KBI is still investigating.
