Man arrested after suspicious activity in Pittsburg
PITTSBURG, Kan. — Pittsburg Police arrest a man for burglary at a pawn shop.
On Thursday morning, September 12, 2019, around 4:15 AM, an officer with the Pittsburg Police Department saw a person inside Easy Money Pawn Shop, located at 818 N. Broadway Street.
Given the early morning hour and suspicious activity of the suspect, the officer believed the business was actively being burglarized and requested additional officers to respond.
Additional officers and members of the anti-property-crimes task force arrived. They went into the pawn shot and searched around.
They found the suspect, a 58-year-old Frontenac resident and arrested him. According to police, the suspect claimed he had permission to be in the pawn shop. Police contacted the business owner, who later arrived on scene.
Authorities say the suspect ended up being an acquaintance of the business owner, but he didn’t have permission to be in the business after hours.
Police search the suspect after they arrested him and found items belonging to the pawn shop. They also found items believed to be illegal drugs and unlawfully possessed prescription medications.
The Pittsburg Police Department is requesting charges of felony burglary, felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of prescription medications, felony possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor theft.
