Man arrested after open firing on a Chanute business

CHANUTE, Kan – Chanute Police respond to shots fired at a local business.

According to authorities, police responded to a report of shots being fired at the 3800 block of South Santa Fe street on October 23rd at 1:15 P.M.

Officers found that an adult man was inside the business showing a firearm he had inside of his waistband. The people inside the business asked the man to leave.

After following the man out of the business, they locked the door; Shots were then fired through the door, missing the people inside.

The people inside reportedly knew the man and where he was staying.

Police found the individual and arrested him. The firearm was given to another person who gave it to the police when they arrived.

The man was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and criminal discharge of a firearm. He has since been transported to Neosho County Jail.

The investigation is still currently ongoing.
