Man arrested after fleeing, crashing into Joplin apartment

Police arrest a man for fleeing and leaving the scene of an accident.

On August 1st, 2019 around 9:15 am, a Joplin officer saw a blue van speeding. The officer tried to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle fled. Authorities did not pursue the vehicle due to the time of day and safety of those in the area.

The officer did give a detailed description of the driver to other officers and dispatch.

The officer believed that same vehicle was involved in a call he took on July 31st, so he began checking the area around 15th St. and Kansas Ave. He found the vehicle at 1504 S. Kansas Ave.

Authorities started talking to several people in the area and were told a male exited the vehicle and ran into apartment 1. Witnesses gave the same description of the male that the officer had.

Police were given consent to search the apartment and found the suspect inside. Investigators arrested him and then discovered that the suspect had crashed the vehicle into the side of the apartment building, causing significant damage.

Directly inside where the vehicle hit the building, a young child and pregnant female were sleeping. Police were told that when the vehicle hit the building, it caused the wall to push within inches of their head.

Police called the owner of the vehicle who told them it had been stolen.

Authorities identified the suspect as Timothy S. Wright, 32, of Joplin, Missouri. They arrested him and the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office has charged him with resisting arrest by fleeing and leaving the scene of an accident.
