Local students collect 108 pounds of aluminum tabs for charity

JOPLIN, Mo. – Stapleton Elementary students donate 108 pounds of aluminum tabs to benefit the local Ronald McDonald House in Joplin.
What began as a fun way to support local charities blossomed into a friendly competition among students.
School officials say the pop-tab drive is a tradition that spans over a decade at Stapleton Elementary.
“It is always special to involve children in philanthropy, but it is even more meaningful when they have an understanding of how they are making a difference,” said Jerri Sargent, House Program Manager. “I am very excited to hear the students present what they have learned.”
