Local reaction to the St. Louis judge’s ruling on the Planned Parenthood clinic
Locals share for and against opinions
JOPLIN, Mo. — Missouri’s law to ban abortion has created a lot of controversy, resulting in many protests breaking out for those for and against the ban.
Now the only abortion clinic in the state of Missouri was facing the expiration of their license.
A judge ruled today, May 31st, 2019 to allow the St. Louis Planned Parenthood to continue providing the abortion service.
Planned Parenthood representatives had the following to say.
“While this ruling is only temporary relief, it is welcome news for the 1.1 million Missourians of reproductive age.”
Following this ruling we asked people on the streets and online for their thoughts.
“We need to take care of women and make sure we still have our voice and choices and that’s under attack right now honestly so it’s a relief to me” said Joplin resident, Mariah Callari.
“It’s not just about abortion, it’s about women and women’s rights and women’s bodies” she added.
Callari added that “It would be nice if we could have dialogue about it instead of just arguing and being so polarized, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen.”
There were over 300 comments on our Facebook post. Many were from those that were pro-life.
“Very dissatisfied and disappointed with this decision” wrote one user.
“Stop murdering the innocent” wrote another. These were among many others.
The ruling will only remain in effect until June 4th when the issue will be heard again in court.
